Set in the quaint by-lanes of Chimbai Village, neighbouring the seashore, the 2-storey Payal Khandwala bungalow is nestled amongst a quiet fishing village, frangipani and palm trees. Designed maintaining the essence of Bandra’s characteristic local Koli community we have imagined a space that is stark and contemporary yet relevant to its organic surroundings.
The store maintains our signature experience that is purposefully carried forward from our Flagship store in Colaba, but is set within the context of its new, charming and humble surroundings.
Designed by Payal, from the carbon stained cement walls, the Wenge flooring and carefully procured fittings to the custom made furniture, it was imagined to be an extension of the earlier store albeit with its own personality.
Keeping this in mind, the lotus murals, hand painted by Payal, on the gold and silver leaf walls are in contrast to the flying peacocks at our Colaba store. Our National flower, the lotus is a strong spiritual and mythological symbol and a proud motif of our own personal Make In India story.
Our Bandra store will carry the complete range of our label. Our classic and distinct colour blocked silhouettes will be on display on the ground floor of the bungalow, in addition to the brass and leather accessories from our sister brand, Tachi. A rich selection of our festive limited edition range of intricate hand woven brocades, handwoven silk saris and dupattas will reside on first floor of the store coupled with our entire range of pleated shapes.
Given lengthy travel times, we thought it important to setup a store in the suburbs to facilitate easier access to our clients who reside a fair distance away from our flagship store in Colaba. Bandra was a conscious decision for its ideal location, its new cultural landscape and its distinct character.
This was also the best way to offer our customer an extensive range of the clothes and a shopping experience that was more holistic and communicated the aesthetic of the brand.
